“I’ve always been interested in how people behave. In my research for my undergrad, I looked at romantic jealousy on Facebook. I was seeing if people were more jealous when they saw ambiguous information on Facebook about their partners, and once they saw that information, if they were triggered to look further. I found that Facebook definitely triggers jealousy, especially with ambiguous information. What I mean by that is if you see your partner in a picture with some other girl and his arm is around her and there’s no caption and nothing telling you who the other girl is, yes, you’re going to be jealous and more likely to do more stalking, versus if you see that same picture, but the caption says “me and my cousin at a family birthday party,” you know there’s nothing to be jealous of.”
