“When I was in grade eleven, we knew we were going to get a dog, but my dad had a mid-life crisis, so we got two. They have been the most extraordinary members of my family. They appreciate everything about life. The minute they’re outdoors and they breathe the air and see the environment, they’re just… happy. As humans, I think we’re so unaware of the outside world. We step into it every day, but we’re not really aware of everything that goes on. We keep our heads down, focused our phones. As an animal, you literally walk outside and you want to know what’s around you, who’s around you, the scents, the images… They’re aware of life, and I think at times in my life I wasn’t. So with them, I become more aware, more self-aware, and happier.”
