“I’m an autism consultant. I did a Masters in autism and behavioural therapy. I guess that would be my thing.”
“What drew you to your job?”
“I was in in the Jewish day school system for elementary school and high school. I was diagnosed with a learning disability, dyslexia, in grade one. From then, I struggled academically throughout elementary and high school and I had a lot of behavioural problems. I had a lot of teachers who believed in me, especially later in life. The few people that believed in me and didn’t throw me to the back of the class and say ‘this kid can’t do anything,’ are the ones who made me think I need to go forward. When I finished my undergrad, I really wanted to pursue an education that would lead me to helping children and teens in those domains, as well as helping teachers learn how to cope with those kinds of students. I think the most important thing is to give the child the tools they need to cope.”
