“I like intimate museum collections, because they make you look at history in different ways, especially because art history is essentially a string of anthropology. People try to idealize one specific painter, and show how they’re so important and should be revered, but the paintings that are picked and the reasons we go to museums are not to see which artists are the best, but to see which artists were picked by that culture in that time period, and why those people picked it. It says more about the culture than the actual artist. That is the most important part, I find: what was kept rather than what wasn’t.”
