“I remember as a little girl walking my grandmother to synagogue. She was old and quite chubby. We would walk and walk and she would stop and people would pass by, wishing her a happy new year. She didn’t go to synagogue every week, but when she did, it was like she was part of the congregation, part of the family. They were so welcoming to her and it made me so proud. These people were so wonderful to my grandmother and it gave me a really good feeling about being in a synagogue because of the warmth that was displayed to my grandmother.”
