“I’ve been a teacher for many years. I always taught English. I was teaching at Herzliah High School not long after the war. A student came over to me and said, ‘Could you do something for me? I want you to change my last name on the class list.’ I asked, ‘Why?’ He explained that his parents were killed in the Holocaust so he was brought up by another family. He wanted to acknowledge what they had done for him by taking their name.”
