“My dad just passed away on September 23rd; he was my role model and really important in my life. Over the last two years he was really interested in orchids and was nursing my orchid that I was ready to shoot in the garbage, and he brought it back to life. A month before he died, he said, ‘It’s going to bloom! You’ll see; it’s got buds on it!’ It did, and now it’s on my dining room table with six blossoms.
I use art as a way to express what I’m going through. I’m working on a painting of these orchids as part of a piece that will be called ‘Things my Father Left Me’. No one’s going to live forever, but you can leave a mark through art and some piece of you might survive.”
